In the past decade, Chinese enterprises have signed over $700 billion contracts in Africa, creating more than 1.1 million jobs in the last three years.

Many of these companies, including those from Zhejiang, have made significant contributions, driving economic growth and injecting fresh energy into China-Africa cooperation.

Fostering Growth Through Mentorship in Egypt
在埃及红海之滨,巨石埃及玻璃纤维股份有限公司(下称“巨石埃及”)的蓝白色厂房在阳光下熠熠生辉。公司于2012年在埃及成立,彼时埃及的玻纤行业几乎还是一片空白。短短12年间,巨石埃及不仅填补了这一空白,还将埃及打造为全球第四大玻纤生产国。这一奇迹的背后,离不开一群浙江人的默默坚守与付出。
Jushi Egypt for Fibergalss Industry S.A.E., a subsidiary of China Jushi Co., Ltd.based in Zhejiang. Established in 2012 when there was almost no fiberglass industry in Egypt, Jushi Egypt has, in the past 12 years, turned the country into the world’s fourth-largest fiberglass producer.

巨石埃及络纱车间副主任金义群,是从巨石总部浙江来的资深技术人员,也是同事们口中的“实在人”和“老前辈”,他在巨石埃及已经待了8年,见证了这片被绿植环绕的工厂逐渐成长为埃及工业的一颗明珠。
Behind this transformation is the dedication of a core team of Zhejiang professionals, including Jin Yiqun, the deputy director of the yarn workshop. Having worked at Jushi Egypt for eight years, Jin is seen as a mentor and a vital part of the company’s success.
十几年来,不断有当地人加入巨石埃及,他们从前人手中接过交接棒,继续完成公司的使命,这源源不断的能量,离不开公司“师徒结对”的传统——巨石埃及通常会让经验丰富的中国老员工和埃及新员工结成师徒,进行手把手的技术传授和管理经验交流。
金义群在巨石埃及工作的8年间,每年都会帮带不同的埃及新员工,平均每个埃及徒弟半年就可以结业出师。“现在我们车间里的主任、副主任,很多都是我一手带出来的徒弟。”金义群自豪地说。
目前,巨石埃及有近2000名员工,当地人占98%以上。师徒结对也从最初的中国人教埃及人慢慢变为埃及人教埃及人。授人以鱼不如授人以渔,培养可持续发展的人才,这是“中国式承诺”。

The company’s “mentor-apprentice” system pairs experienced Chinese staff with Egyptian employees, ensuring the seamless transfer of technical skills and management expertise. Over the years, Jin has mentored numerous Egyptian employees, many of whom have risen to senior positions. This tradition has evolved, resulting in Egyptian employees training their peers, which exemplifies sustainable development.
对于金义群而言,他对这里的一切都已有了深深的眷恋:“我不想称呼他们为埃及人,我们都是同事和朋友,我舍不得离开他们。”

路天行(Fathy)是公司的一名当地员工。6年前,刚从大学毕业的他作为翻译加入巨石埃及。由于在技术和管理方面没有经验,在公司的安排下,他前往中国总部进行专业培训,还找了一位中国师傅。“这样有温度的公司,我一定要好好工作,要努力工作。”学成归来的路天行如今已成为公司技术品质部经理助理。
在公司项目遇到困难时,他们也坚定地与公司站在一起。“我们可以通过解决问题,进行更多的分析和深入思考,从问题中汲取教训,以便在未来避免类似情况。”作为副总经理的当地人索利曼(Soliman)说,“这也是我学习并了解中国文化的一个很好的例子。”这种共同奋斗的精神,不仅使得巨石埃及成为一个高效运转的企业,也在中国与埃及员工之间建立了深厚的情感纽带。
At Jushi Egypt, the experiences of local employees like Fathy and Soliman showcase the strong collaboration between Chinese and Egyptian staff. Fathy joined the company six years ago as a translator without technical or management experience. He was sent to China for professional training, where he worked diligently under the guidance of a Chinese mentor. Upon his return, Fathy advanced to the position of Assistant Manager in the Quality Department.
Similarly, Soliman, now a Deputy General Manager, emphasized how facing challenges together with his Chinese colleagues has deepened his understanding of Chinese culture and strengthened their relationship. This spirit of mentorship and teamwork has not only enhanced the efficiency of Jushi Egypt but also created lasting bonds between Chinese and Egyptian employees.

“作为公司的管理者,很多事情我们都在身体力行。”沈小冬说。通过这些实际行动,巨石埃及深入当地社会,取得了良好的社会效益。未来,他们还计划进一步扩大生产规模,积极推进环保和社会责任项目,推动公司和当地社区的可持续发展。

Building Trust Through Integrity in Tanzania
位于坦桑尼亚达累斯萨拉姆市中心的卡里亚库商业区,人潮熙攘。53岁的傅文红正在他的鞋店里忙碌。他曾经是浙江义乌的一名鞋品批发商。11年前,他从浙江义乌来到这里,带来了中国制造的鞋品。
In Tanzania’s bustling Kariakoo business district in Dar es Salaam, Fu Wenhong, a 53-year-old entrepreneur from Yiwu, Zhejiang, has made a name for himself in the local shoe market. Eleven years ago, Fu arrived in Tanzania with a collection of shoes from China. He faced numerous challenges, including language barriers and a lack of knowledge of the local market.

初到坦桑尼亚时,傅文红的鞋子并未受到当地市场的青睐。“我拿着鞋子一家一家问,但因为语言不通,他们也听不懂我在说什么。”在无数次碰壁后,一家鞋铺的老板凯威鲁接待了他,他们用手比划着交流了近2个小时后,傅文红成功拿下了第一笔订单。
在凯威鲁的帮助下,傅文红的鞋子走进了更多人的视线,渐渐打开了当地市场。他不断引入鞋的新款式,并带来最新的制鞋技术,在当地开设了中国制造为引领的鞋厂,改变了当地的制鞋行业。如今,他不仅是卡里亚库商业区一家鞋店的老板,还拥有坦桑尼亚最大的制鞋企业。

在谈到成功的秘诀时,傅文红坦言:“‘实在’是最重要的原则。我们做生意,讲究的是不掺水、不作假、做实事、讲诚信。”正是这种实在的态度,让他的产品在市场上占据了稳固的位置,也赢得了当地消费者的信任。
Through persistence and a fortuitous meeting with a local shop owner, Fu managed to secure his first order. As his business grows, he introduced new styles and manufacturing techniques to the local market. Now, Fu not only runs a successful shoe store but also owns one of the largest shoe manufacturing companies in Tanzania. His success is built on the principle of “integrity”—ensuring product quality and building trust with his customers.
在强烈的社会责任感的驱使下,傅文红积极投身当地公益事业。几年间,他多次捐款支持坦桑尼亚的教育和社区建设。傅文红希望通过自己的努力,为当地带来更多的福祉。他说:“我希望我的成功不仅仅是个人的成就,更是中非友谊的见证。”

在坦桑尼亚,还有很多像傅文红这样在当地创业、生活的浙江人。采访期间,我们见到了浙江商会会长夏赵春,他告诉我们,15年来,浙江商会为坦桑尼亚公益慈善事业捐款达10万美元,为当地经济社会发展作出了重要贡献。如今来到坦桑尼亚的浙江企业越来越多,目前已登记超过50家,会员1400余人,这些企业的发展,有效改善了当地的就业问题。“人们的收入提升了,幸福感也提升了。”夏赵春说。
一个订单,点亮中非贸易新市场

初见曹吾泉,他正站在一大卷精致的布料前,这位来自浙江杭州的商人,20多年前怀揣梦想来到南非约翰内斯堡,如今已成为南非浙江总商会的副会长。
“你看这些布料,都是从绍兴柯桥运来的。”曹吾泉指着堆满仓库的布卷说,“那时候,我最大的梦想就是把绍兴的布料市场带到南非。没想到,这个梦想真的实现了。”
2003年,曹吾泉在浙江经营一家纺织厂,生意红火,客户中不乏南非的华人。一次偶然的机会,他得知这些华人在非洲各地打拼,并且从他这下的纺织品订单在当地卖得风生水起。这让他萌生了一个大胆的想法:何不亲自到南非看看呢?于是,他毅然踏上了这片陌生的土地。
In South Africa, Cao Wuquan, a businessman from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, has realized his dream of bringing high-quality Chinese textiles to the African market. Twenty years ago, Cao left his thriving textile business in Zhejiang to explore the opportunities in South Africa. He quickly realized the immense potential of the local market, which was in dire need of high-quality textiles.
“刚到南非时,我发现这里市场的潜力远超我的预期。”曹吾泉回忆起当年的情景,脸上带着些许感慨。“当地的纺织品市场几乎是空白的,这简直是一个巨大的商机。”于是,他决定在南非设立经营点,将绍兴的优质布料引入这里。

说起生意的拓展,曹吾泉侃侃而谈。最初的几年,他依靠亲朋好友的帮忙,将中国的纺织品源源不断地带到南非。一开始,这里的华人商户只有三五家,没想到几年间,这支队伍迅速壮大,现在已有三五十家在这里扎根。他们不仅经营纺织品,还涉足家电、百货等多个领域,为南非的市场发展注入了新的活力。
“我们浙江人做生意,靠的就是实在、踏实。”曹吾泉言语中充满了对同乡们的赞许。“当初,我们把布料一卷卷地带过来,既是为我们自己谋生,也是真正地帮助了南非当地的市场发展。”
走在约翰内斯堡的街头,不难发现浙江商人们的身影,中国的高速发展和中非合作的深化为华人商人在当地的发展提供了有力支持。“现在,南非的普通民众对中国人非常友好,他们知道中国在帮助非洲,也愿意与我们合作。”曹吾泉说。
Starting with a small network of Chinese merchants, Cao steadily expanded his business, importing fabrics from Shaoxing, Zhejiang, and establishing a strong foothold in the South African market. Today, Zhejiang merchants in Johannesburg have grown into a thriving community, diversifying their businesses into other sectors such as electronics and household goods. This growth has not only bolstered the local economy but also enhanced the cultural exchange between China and South Africa.

随着浙江企业在南非的稳步扎根与蓬勃发展,越来越多的南非人也开始了解中国。南非豪登省社区秘书处执行主席马塞勒拉(TJ Masilela)在与中国朋友的接触中,对中国产生了浓厚的兴趣和向往。他第一次来中国是在2018年,那一刻起,他便被这片土地上的景象深深吸引,在社交平台上写下:“都市街头的高楼大厦彰显着中国经济的蓬勃生机,古色古香的白墙青瓦间又透露出中国文化独有的美丽。”“虽然语言上存在障碍,但是中国人民都非常友善和谦逊。”这让马塞勒拉先生感受到了中国的温暖与包容。
TJ Masilela, the Executive Chairman of Gauteng Provincial Community Secretariat, has developed a deep interest in China through his interactions with Chinese businessmen. His first visit to China in 2018 left him a deep impression. Despite the language barrier, he found Chinese people very nice and humble.
在中国短短几天时间,马塞勒拉不仅领略了中国的自然风光与人文景观,更在与中国朋友的深入交流中,深刻体会到了中非之间那份超越贸易往来的深厚情谊。这份情谊,如同非洲大草原上最坚韧的树木,历经风雨而愈发根深叶茂。
马塞勒拉亲眼见证了中国如何以开放包容的姿态,与世界各国携手共进,共同推动全球经济的繁荣与发展。而金砖等多边合作机制,更是成为中非合作的新舞台,为双方探索更多合作领域、实现互利共赢提供了广阔的空间。
“今年10月我还要再去一次中国,希望能看到更多中非合作的成果。”马塞勒拉满怀期待地说。
During his stay in China, Masilela not only experienced the natural beauty and cultural sites but also felt the strong bond between China and Africa. He observed how China’s openness and cooperation with the world contribute to global prosperity, particularly through multilateral frameworks like BRICS, which provide new platforms for enhancing China-Africa cooperation. Eager to see more outcomes of this collaboration, Masilela looks forward to his visit to China in October.
近年来,越来越多的中国企业走出国门,积极参与到中非合作中,并带来先进的技术和管理经验,带动了当地的产业升级和现代化。商务部数据显示,2023年中非贸易额达到了2821亿美元,与2021年相比增长了近11%,推动了当地经济社会的全面发展。
真实亲诚,历久弥新。浙江人用实际行动书写了中非合作的精彩篇章。正如金义群所说,“我们不仅是来投资的,更希望帮助当地自我造血。”这种实实在在的努力,正是中非合作能够走得更远、更稳的重要原因。
The stories of Zhejiang businesses in Egypt, Tanzania, and South Africa are a testament to broader China-Africa cooperation. With the trade volume between China and Africa reaching $282.1 billion in 2023—a nearly 11% increase from 2021—these enterprises are not only investing but also fostering sustainable development and deepening the bonds of friendship between China and Africa. As Jin Yiqun aptly put it, “We are not only here to invest, but also hope to help the local companies become self-sustaining.” This spirit of cooperation and genuine partnership serves as the foundation for a prosperous future between China and Africa.
